Authorizing older versions of Live (1 - 9.6.2)

In order to authorize version older than Live 10, follow the instructions below.

Live 1 - 3

Live 1 - 3 can no longer be authorized. Please get in touch with Ableton Support to receive the last supported version of Live.

Live 4

  1. Enter your serial number.
  2. Press Unlock.
  3. Write down the challenge code/hardware code.
  4. Log onto your Ableton user account and enter the challenge code/hardware code here. You will only fill out 4 of the 6 boxes.
  5. You will then be presented with an Unlock Key/.auz file
  6. Download and transfer the Unlock Key/.auz file to the computer that you have installed Live on.
  7. After transferring the Unlock Key/.auz file to your computer, open Live and choose the Load Unlock Key button in the Unlock dialog and locate the Unlock Key on your hard drive.

Live 4.1 - 6, LE

  1. Start Live and open Preferences which can be accessed via the Options menu on Windows or the Live menu in Mac OS X.
  2. Select Live from the list of available products.
  3. Click on the Unlock button at the bottom of the window.
  4. Enter your serial number when prompted to do so, and then click Ok
  5. The options that appear will include an Unlock Offline section. Carefully write down the challenge code/hardware code given here.
  6. Log onto your Ableton user account and enter the challenge code/hardware code at this page. You will only fill out 4 of the 6 boxes.
  7. After successfully entering your challenge code/hardware code, you will be presented with an Unlock Key/.auz file. Download and transfer the Unlock Key to the computer on which you have installed Live.
  8. After transferring the Unlock Key to your computer, open Live's Preferences again to the Products tab and repeat steps 2 - 4 above.
  9. When you are again presented with the Unlock Offline option, click the Load Unlock Key button, and locate the Unlock Key/ .auz file on your hard disk.

Live 7

  1. Start Live and, when prompted, enter your serial number and click Unlock...
  2. The options that appear will include an Unlock From File section. Carefully write down the challenge code/hardware code given here.
  3. Then log onto your Ableton user account and enter the challenge code/hardware code at this page. You will only fill out 4 of the 6 boxes.
  4. After successfully entering the challenge code/hardware code, you will be presented with an Unlock Key/.auz file. Download and transfer the Unlock Key/.auz file to the computer on which you have installed Live.
  5. Click the Load Unlock Key file... button, and locate the Unlock Key/.auz file on your hard disk.

If you purchased an add-on product later, you can unlock it either online or offline as follows:

  1. Open Live's Preferences which can be accessed via the Options menu on Windows or the Live menu in Mac OS X, and select the Products tab.
  2. Select the product you want to unlock from the list of available products.
  3. Click on the Unlock button.
  4. From here, you can unlock the add-on product online or from a file, using the same procedures listed above.
