Unable to record audio on recent macOS
- Live Versions: All
- Operating System: macOS 10.14 and later
On all recent macOS, all audio applications must be given permission to access audio inputs. When opening Live for the first time after updating your OS, you will see this notification:
You need to click "OK" to enable your audio inputs.
Note: Although the notification says "microphone", it refers to all audio inputs: internal microphone, USB microphones, and any inputs on external audio interfaces.
If you clicked on "Don't Allow" you can still grant access in System Preferences:
- Close Live.
- Open System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Privacy > Microphone.
- Tick the box next to Ableton Live.
- Then launch Live.
- Your audio inputs should now be enabled.
