Max for Live Developer Mode
Learn how to enable Max for Live Developer Mode in Ableton Live 12.4, which restores the Edit button in Max for Live device headers and adds a Copy Max for Live Path option to the right-click menu of Live UI elements.
Note: Max for Live Developer Mode was added in Live 12.4. In earlier versions of Live 12, you can activate this mode by adding the line ‘-MaxForLiveDeveloperMode’ to your Options.txt file.
Enabling Max for Live Developer Mode
To enable Max for Live Developer Mode, go to Live’s menu bar and enable Options → Max for Live Developer Mode.
When active, the Max for Live icon in the title bar of Max for Live devices becomes a clickable Edit button, which opens the device for editing in Max.
Copying a Max for Live path
With Max for Live Developer Mode enabled, right-clicking certain elements in the Live UI — such as clips and parameter controls — adds a Copy Max for Live Path entry to the context menu.
Selecting this option copies a path string to your clipboard. You can then paste this into a message box in a Max for Live device that is open for editing in Max. The path can be used to access the right-clicked element via the Live API.
For more information on how to use this path in your device, see Cycling '74's documentation on the Live API.
