Getting started with Splice integration in Live

Which editions of Live include Splice?

All Live 12.3 editions (Suite, Standard, Intro, and Lite) include the Splice integration.

Do I need a Splice subscription to use the integration in Live?

As of Ableton Live 12.3, you can preview samples in the Splice integration and use the free samples available on Splice without a separate Splice subscription.

  • In order to drag and drop samples into Live, you need to either log into your existing Splice account or create one for free.
  • To access more samples and features than those available with a free Splice account, you can click on Try Free for a trial of the Splice x Ableton Live plan, or visit Splice support for more options.

Can I use Splice in Live while offline, or with an inactive Splice account?

The Splice integration requires an active internet connection and at least a free Splice account.

The Splice Desktop app can be used in offline mode as long as all your samples are synced to your computer. To learn how to sync Splice samples, visit the Splice support article How do I re-download sounds I previously licensed? Once synced, you can use these samples while offline.

Can I use the Splice integration in older versions of Ableton Live?

The Splice integration is only available in Live 12.3 and later versions.

  • Older versions of Live do not support the Splice integration.
  • For how to use other Splice services with older versions of Ableton Live, visit Splice support.

I'm having trouble logging into Splice. What should I do?

First, verify you're logged in with the correct account at www.splice.com. If issues accessing your Splice account from Live continue, follow these steps:

  1. In your web browser, visit Splice.com and log out of your account.
  2. In Live, click the Login button in the Splice integration.
  3. Log in with the correct account.

What does “Try free” mean?

The Try free button in the Splice integration links to the option to sign up for a free trial of the Splice x Ableton Live plan. Learn more about Splice DAW Integrations.

Splice integration features

Which Splice standalone features are not included in the Live integration?

The following Splice features are not currently available in the Live integration:

  • Crates
  • Stacks
  • Plug-in Presets

Why don’t I see a credit counter in the Splice integration?

The Splice integration in Live offers a dedicated Splice x Ableton Live plan, which works like the Splice x Studio One and Splice x Pro Tools plans. Splice x Ableton Live gives you unmetered access to download up to 100 sounds per day directly in Live, so no credit counter is shown. The plan also includes 100 introductory credits that can be used on Splice.com for items such as presets or MIDI files.

Where can I drag and drop Slice audio samples?

Audio files can only be dropped into certain locations within Live, as listed in this table:

Why do I see a blank window instead of the Splice interface?

A blank window occurs on Windows computers without Edge Webview2 installed. To resolve this, Install Edge Webview2 and/or use Windows Update to check for updates to your operating system. Windows 11 includes Edge Webview2 by default.

Why doesn't the Splice theme match my Live theme?

The Splice integration currently offers only one theme.

Search with Sound

Why doesn't the Search with Sound feature work or capture audio?

Search with Sound requires a minimum of 1 bar of audio to work. If the selected time region is too small, a notification message will appear in the Search with Sound dialog. To fix this, select at least 1 bar.

Why does Search with Sound display sounds not included in my plan?

Search with Sound currently returns up to 50 results at a time. You can refine the results further using Splice’s built-in filters. It’s not currently possible to filter results to only show free samples. Since most of Splice’s catalog requires a subscription, you can expect to see subscription content in your results. The AI behind Search with Sound prioritizes compatibility and similarity over licensing type. Learn more about Search with Sound.
