CV Tools on Push 3

CV Tools is an Ableton Pack that includes CV Instruments, CV Modulation Tools, and CV Utilities. CV Tools can be downloaded from the Packs menu on Push 3 or directly from Live’s Browser. To learn more about CV Tools Device Setup and Routing Pages on Push 3 (standalone).

Push CV Adapter
CV output via ADAT

CV Tools can be used to receive CV (control voltage) data on Push 3 via ADAT. CV, Trigger, Clock, and Gate data can be sent either from Push’s Pedal jacks or via ADAT. Push 3 can output up to 12 CV signals, depending on the configuration:

Signals Output configuration Input/Output port
up to 4 two CV adapters, available from the Webshop Pedal jacks
up to 8 ADAT channels 1-8 ADAT ports
up to 12 2 CV adapters and ADAT channels 1-8 Pedal jacks + ADAT ports

Note: Some CV Tools devices have limited capabilities in Standalone Mode. Learn more about Max for Live Compatibility

CV output via Pedal jacks

Push Pedal jacks

Each Pedal jack on the back of Push 3 provides two CV channels using a TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) connector. Using Ableton CV adapter cables (splitter cables), you can send a total of four CV signals using both jacks.

CV specifications for Push’s Pedal jacks
Voltage Range  0-10V
Resolution 12 Bits
Frequency Range  DC-20kHz

Push CV Adapter

The Push CV Adapter is a splitter cable with a single 6.3 mm TRS plug to dual 3.5 mm TS jacks. The adapter's jacks are color-coded to correspond with the Push Pedal jack configuration:

Label Routing Channel  Signal Side
White CV1L / CV2L   Left (Tip)
Yellow CV1R / CV2R    Right (Ring)

Note: Because Push’s voltage ranges from 0 to 10V (positive values), you need to set the CV instrument to unipolar mode. This ensures pitch is interpreted correctly, since the instrument expects voltages in a positive range.

Setting up CV outputs

To enable CV output on Push, go to Setup Window Pedals & CV

Select CV Out using the encoders above the displayed labels for Pedal & CV 1 and Pedal & CV 2, as pictured:

CV output via ADAT

ADAT channels 1-8 can be used to send or receive CV in Standalone or Control Live Mode, using a DC-coupled interface, or a eurorack module that converts CV to ADAT and offers ADAT input or output. The ADAT In and Out ports can be found on the back of Push 3:

Setting up ADAT

  • Plug the ADAT cable into the Push 3's ADAT input to receive CV signals, or output to send CV signals.
  • Connect the other end to the external device that should receive or send CV.

Configure CV Routing pages to send or receive CV to ADAT 1-8 in the CV tool devices.

Set up Live:

  • Go to LiveSettingsAudio
  • Set Audio Input & Output Device to Ableton Push 3 Audio

Load CV Tool device:

  • Select external output or input depending on the device
  • Select channel 9 to send or receive CV from ADAT channel 1

Note: ADAT channels 1–8 correspond to channels 9–16 in Live
