Slicing mode in Drum Racks produce no sound
In Ableton Live, when you trigger a Drum Pad—either by clicking it or playing a MIDI controller—only a single MIDI note is sent to the instrument loaded on that pad. Each pad is assigned a specific MIDI note (like C1, D#1, etc.), and this is assigned automatically by Live in the Drum Rack’s I/O section.
When Simpler is in Classic or 1-Shot mode, it plays back samples as expected. However, in Slice mode, Simpler responds to a range of MIDI notes to trigger different slices. If only one note is sent—as is the case inside a Drum Rack—this often results in silence or incomplete playback, if no slice is triggered.
To avoid this, we recommend placing Simpler on its own separate track in your Set when using Slice mode. If you still want access to Drum Rack features, you can right-click Simpler and select Convert to Drum Rack. This maps each slice to its own pad, with every slice mapped to its own pad and matched to the correct MIDI note.
