Graphics errors and crashes when displaying dialogs on Retina MacBooks
- Live Versions: 9
- Operating System: Mac OS X 10.9 and above
Note: This error is resolved in the latest beta version of Live 9.2.
More information can be found here.
MacBooks equipped with Retina displays can run into graphics glitches which occur when Live shows dialog windows, such as the Save dialog, the Preferences window or the Export Audio/Video dialog. In some rare cases, this can also cause OS X to crash (Kernel Panic).
Using Live on the main display
If Live is running on the main display, such glitches tend to take place more frequently when the Live Display Zoom is set to a value above 130%.
Resetting the Zoom to 100% should take care of restoring the correct application behavior.
Using Live on an external display
When the Live window is shown on an external display, graphics problems tend to take place instead as long as Live's Display Zoom is set to 100%.
In this case, setting the zoom to a value slightly above 100% (and below 130%, as explained in the previous paragraph) restores the correct behavior.
The Live Zoom Display setting is located in the Preferences' Look/Feel tab.
Running Live in Low Resolution
Should graphics errors still occasionally take place, running Live in Low Resolution mode would remedy this.
- Close Live and open a Finder window.
- In Finder, press [Cmd+Shift+A] to display your Applications folder, and locate the Ableton Live application.
- Cltr + click the Ableton Live application and choose "Get Info" from the context menu.
- Tick the option "Open in Low Resolution".
Note that running Live in low resolution will only impact how the fonts and the mouse pointer are rendered on Retina Displays. It will not affect the resolution of other graphics elements.
