Empty Browser

Live 8 - 10.0.6

If the Live browser is empty, with no devices or content, this usually indicates that another instance of Live is already running. Only one instance of Live can access the Live Library database at a time.

Note: Live 10.1 and later now allows two instances of Live to access the browser at the same time, thereby eliminating this issue.


To fix this, close all running Live instances and restart just one version of Live. If you can't find any open versions of Live, a Live process might be running in the background instead. Open Task Manager (Windows), Activity Monitor (Mac) and close all Ableton Live processes.

Another reason that the browser may appear empty is if the track view has been resized so far horizontally that the browser is hidden. Hover over the browser partition and then drag it to the right to make sure that the content list is fully visible:


Further troubleshooting

If neither of the above solutions work, it's possible that the Live installation is corrupt. Download the latest version of Live and re-install it.

In some cases, it might help to run Live as an administrator.
