"A fatal error has occurred. Out of Memory"

  • Live Versions: All
  • Operating System: All

If the error message 'A fatal error has occurred. Out of Memory' is displayed, Live has reached the limit of available RAM.

Because of such Out of Memory issues, Live could also crash when loading, saving or when working on a Set.

Out of Memory crashes or errors are more likely if you work with the 32-bit version of Live since it can only utilize a maximum of 4GB of RAM. Therefore, we recommend downloading and installing the 64-bit version of Live, which can support a theoretical maximum of 16 exabytes of RAM - much more RAM than computers actually have. Please keep in mind that Out of Memory crashes can still occur in the 64-bit version of Live if you exceed your computer's maximum memory usage.

In case of Out of Memory issues, you may want to optimise the Live Set per the instructions from this tutorial:

How to deal with RAM limitations and avoid 'Out of Memory' crashes

Should you have only 4GB of RAM installed on your computer, we highly recommend installing more RAM (if possible).
