Enabling Audio over USB in iOS devices
- Live Versions: All
- Operating System: Mac 10.11.1 and higher; iOS 9 and higher
As of Mac OS 10.11.1 "El Capitan", it is possible to stream audio from your iOS device to your Mac via the lightning cable. This allows you to record audio from your iOS device into Live.
Using this feature in combination with Link in Live 9 enables you to seamlessly sync your iOS devices to Live and record audio from your iOS apps.
To do this, your Mac must have El Capitan or later installed, and your iOS must have iOS 9 or later.
Take the following steps:
- Attach your iOS device via Lightning cable.
- Open Audio MIDI Setup (found in Applications/Utilities), go to Window > Show iOS Device Browser.
- Enable the desired iOS device.
After setting this up in the Audio MIDI Setup, you can then choose your iOS device as an Audio Input Device in Live's Preferences > Audio tab.
In order to stream audio from multiple connected iOS devices, first create an Aggregate Audio Device in Audio MIDI Setup. Then choose this Aggregate Device in Live's Preferences > Audio tab.
