What do I need to download to use Max for Live?
- Live Versions: 8 - 9
- Operating System: ALL
To run Max for Live, first of all you need to download and install Max, a separate, stand-alone program.
Once installed, Live and Max communicate internally, so you will never have to run Max. Loading Max devices or the Max for Live editor is done through Live's interface.
Additionally, you can download content packs with pre-built Max for Live devices, which include a range of MIDI effects, audio effects and instruments. These can be downloaded from the Packs section of the Ableton website.
When running Live 9, it's recommended to install the latest version of Max, which can be downloaded from your Ableton User Account.
When running Live 8, Max version 5 is required, so please install Max 5.1.9, available from the Cycling '74 website. Please note that Max for Live is only available in the 32-bit version of Live 8. In order to use Max for Live in 64-bit, you would need to upgrade to Live 9.
Please also take a look into the dedicated setup guide for Max for Live and Live 9 for further information on installation.
