Setting up a Novation Launchpad with Live
- Live Versions: 8-9
- Operating System: All
The Launchpad MK1, MK2, Mini, and Pro require a USB driver to work. Download it here. The Launchpad S is class compliant and does not require this driver.
Install the driver on your system. Note: after installing the driver, it might be necessary to restart your computer in order to finish the installation.
Connect the Launchpad to your computer and start Live. The correct Control Surface should already be automatically selected. In case this doesn't happen, or you need to change it:
- Open Live's Preferences (CTRL+, / CMD+,) and show the MIDI/Sync tab.
- In one of the available Control Surface choosers, select the Launchpad which matches your own. The MK2 and Pro have their own listings, but the MK1, Mini, and S should use the "Launchpad" option.
- In the related Input and Output choosers, select Launchpad as well.
Lastly, make sure that the MIDI ports for the Launchpad are configured correctly. The "Track" and "Remote" ports should be enabled for the Launchpad's inputs and outputs.
For the Launchpad MK2 and Pro, you will also need to enable the output Sync port.
In Live 8 there is only one Launchpad Control Surface available. This supports the MK1, Mini, and S, but not the MK2 or Pro.
