Sampling into Move via USB-C
As of Move 1.3, you can now choose the USB-C port as an audio source when sampling into a Drum Rack Pad or Sampler device. Audio can be sent from any portable device acting as a USB Host that supports audio over USB.

Supported Connection Types
USB-C Host Devices
- USB-C to USB-C cable
Note: This connection will slowly drain the battery of your device
- USB-C to USB-C with Ableton USB Splitter Cable with Move connected to the power port of the splitter cable
Lightning Port Devices
When sampling into Move from a Lightning port device, a Lightning to USB adapter is necessary as Lightning to USB-C cables are not supported.
Note: Move, as a Client device, needs to be connected to a Host device. Normally, devices such as mobile phones or tablets are also classified as Client devices. However, by using the adapters listed below you can convert them into Host devices, enabling Move to establish a connection to them.
- Lightning to USB-A adapter with a USB-A to USB-C cable
- Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter with a USB-A to USB-C cable
Troubleshooting USB-C connection on Move
Adapters and cable connection:
- Some USB cables are wired only to send power, like those supplied with bluetooth headphones, for example. These will not be able to send audio over USB-C.
- We have tested using only Apple certified adapters and cables and therefore, while 3rd-party adapters may work, we do not officially support them
- When first connecting Move to a tablet such as an iPad, you may be presented with a dialog asking “Are you connecting a pair of headphones?”. In this case, choose “Other Device.”
- Lightning to USB-C cables are not supported, since these do not convert devices into Host devices.
Audio:
- Audio Interfaces are not supported
- Move’s audio connection requires that the device is set to maximum volume; therefore, when connecting a device via USB-C to Move, the device’s volume will automatically be increased to the maximum value.
Power:
- Whenever possible, connect Move to a power source, so that Move does not drain the battery of your device. This can be easily accomplished by using the Ableton USB Splitter Cable, which allows you to send audio from your device via one end of the cable and power via the other to Move.
