What are Education Access Seats?

An Education Access Seats license is a singular, umbrella license of Ableton Live that contains multiple authorizations, called seats. This type of license offers the following benefits for schools, students and faculty:

  • Educators or IT admins can link student or faculty Ableton accounts to the school’s Education Access Seats license, via the school's account
  • Once linked, student and faculty with Ableton can download and authorize Live on their own computers, without accessing the institution's account.
  • Each individual seat user can install and authorize Live on up to two computers.
  • License seats can be revoked and re-assigned by the administrator at any time.

Education Access Seat licenses are only available for Live Suite, not for other editions of Live. To request a quote for your school, visit this page:

Once you’ve submitted a request, an Ableton colleague working directly with schools in your area will contact you with specific information for your institution.

Administering Education Access Seats

To set up Education Access Seats, follow these steps:

1. Registration

Students or faculty members who will be assigned a license seat will need to first create their own account at Ableton.com: Log in or register.

2. License Management

The school’s Ableton account administrator should collect the student/faculty member's Ableton.com account email addresses into a text file or spreadsheet. Then, copy and paste the list of Ableton account email addresses to the school’s Ableton.com Account page, in the text field List of EAS emails, then click Save / Update:

Removing a user’s email from the list and clicking Save / Update will revoke that user’s access to the school’s license.

Note: Revoking the license will deactivate saving and exporting the next time the user starts Live.

Entering a new list of account emails and clicking Save / Update will do the following:

  • If no current list exists, the server assigns the available license seats to the accounts in the uploaded list.
  • If a list already exists in the account, the authorization server compares the old list to the new one. Any new user email addresses in the list will be granted access to the license.
  • Removed user email addresses will no longer have access to the Live license in their Ableton.com account.

3. Download, Install, and Authorize

Students or faculty members that have been added to the school’s account via the list can download Live from their own Ableton.com Account page, then install and authorize the software on their own machines. They will see the Live license in their own Ableton.com account, with the license owner’s name in parentheses, e.g. Live 12 Suite (Oakbridge University):

Users who have been assigned a license seat can follow the instructions in this linked guide to download, install, and authorize Live: Installing Ableton Live

Live must be connected to the internet to check for authorization status each time it is launched. If five days elapse without connection to Ableton’s authorization servers, saving and exporting will be deactivated. In that case, connecting to the internet and re-authorizing Live will re-activate saving and exporting.
