What kind of institutional data is stored at Ableton?

Ableton uses the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool Salesforce to store information about educational institutions and their employees as points of contact for our local territory managers, who provide support for our products. Salesforce provides a type of cloud computing service known as “Software-as-a-Service,” or “SaaS.” This service allows communications and product pricing quotes to be collected and analyzed to help improve support for Ableton products in schools.

How is specific user data managed? 

Institutional data usage

Data from Ableton.com and Outlook (Web form or email) are stored in Salesforce and AWS Redshift. Data usage is internal only. 

Ableton.com 

Users manually create and fill their own account information on Ableton.com, including choosing their own passwords. More info on security is available here: Safety standards for user privacy and data.

Ableton Live and Ableton Note

It is possible for Ableton Live and Ableton Note to send Usage Data to Ableton, if the user voluntarily chooses to activate this option. More information on this is available here:

No personal user data is otherwise stored within the Live or Note applications or transmitted to Ableton. Users may voluntarily choose to share crash log data from Live and Note with Ableton. More on this here: 

Ableton.com user accounts may be permanently deleted by emailing a request to contact@support.ableton.com

Where is the data physically stored?

The infrastructure for Ableton.com is located in Berlin and therefore covered by GDPR

How is the data protected? 

Ableton.com related transaction data in use, transit, and passwords are encrypted. On client machines where Ableton Live is installed, authorization data is encrypted. External users cannot access or extract data stored in Ableton’s CRM database.

Does Ableton software communicate with a web server?

Ableton Live initiates communication with Ableton’s own servers during authorization, automatic or manual update, or additional Live Packs download. This occurs via the following:
